报告人简介:Nikolay Kosinov received a master degree from Novosibirsk State University (Russia) in 2010 and obtained a PhD degree from Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e, The Netherlands) in 2014. After several projects as a research associate, he became an assistant professor at TU/e in 2018 (tenured in 2022). His research is aimed at the synthesis, operando characterization and application of heterogeneous catalytic materials as well as mechanistic understanding of their catalytic action. The main areas of interest include unconventional transformations of natural gas (methane) and CO2to liquid fuels and chemicals followed by operando spectroscopy.

报告内容:Operandocharacterization is the main tool for investigating the structure and reactivity of heterogeneous catalysts. X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS), in particular, provides unique opportunities for understanding the electronic and geometric structure of working catalysts. In this contribution, I will focus on operando characterization of working catalysts with XAS combined with other complementary techniques. Two types of reactions will be discussed: non-oxidative conversion of methane to aromatics over Mo-, Ru-, and Fe-based zeolite catalysts and methanation of CO2over Co-, and Ni-based catalysts.First, I will discuss how transient kinetic experiments combined with operando XAS, X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetry (TG) and isotope labelling helped us uncover unusual hydrocarbon pool mechanism of methane dehydroaromatization. Second, I will discuss how combination of infrared spectroscopy (DRIFTS), steady-state isotope transient kinetic analysis (SSITKA) and operando XANES helped us to understand the structure sensitivity in Ni-based CO2hydrogenation catalysts. Third, unusual high reactivity of Co/CeO2methanation catalysts at relatively low reaction temperature (175 °C) and at atmospheric CO2pressure (400 ppm) will be discussed and explained with the aid of operando transmission infrared spectroscopy and near-ambient pressure X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (NAP-XPS). Finally, operando experiments are not just about spectroscopy. To provide accurate structure-performance relationships, operando experiments must include well-defined kinetic analysis. Therefore, I will pay special attention to the kinetic pitfalls we encountered during studying these materials and the strategies we employed to mitigate them.
